Learning to meditate was one of the most transformative practices of my life.
Before I went to Chicago for my yoga teacher training I had little to no knowledge of meditation other than the experience of being still during relaxation at the end of yoga class. I remember it being a huge shock when I learnt that we had to meditate every day.....I wasn't sure I could do it, I didn't know where to start but with the support of my teachers, I began. Since then I have never stopped exploring meditation and the numerous ways the practice of 'just sitting' can help make life a little bit less of a rollercoaster.
Meditation may seem like a strange thing to do. Just sitting there not doing anything. But there are numerous ways to work with the mind that opens us to every moment of our lives. As humans we tend to worry and think too much, believing that this will help us to make life feel predictable and graspable. But that's not true because every moment we are alive is new and unique. And those thoughts are just thoughts, not reality. Meditation teaches us how to relate to the here and now, so that we so we can truly experience the present moment, free from the constant churn of our thoughts.
When we meditate we cultivate steadfastness, clarity, courage, better attention, and the ability to see that not everything is such a big deal as our minds might have us believe! If you are interested in exploring meditation or mindfulness I teach 1-2-1 sessions which are focused to your needs. I would love to open the door for you to explore what the practice can offer.
