Myofascial release (MFR) is a gentle but powerful form of physical therapy. Fascia is “the soft tissue component of the connective tissue system“. It forms ligaments, tendons and wraps around the brain, nerves, bones, muscle fibers and bundles of muscle fibers. The mind-boggling truth is that these things are one fascia and all interconnected through a silk-like spider’s web. Chronic pain is often linked to fascial restrictions that can lead to musculoskeletal dysfunction. Often a restriction in one area will cause restrictions elsewhere in the body. When we work with fascia we 'act local, but think global', working with the entire fasical system.

The process...
Fascial work is performed without any oil or wax. It is a slow and very focused type of work. MFR therapists are taught to feel for restrictions in the fascia network (tightness, scar tissue and injuries) and then use their hands to create heat and pressure to allow fluidity and form to return to the fascial matrix, alleviating strain and restoring function and balance. I work using a mixture of direct/ indirect MFR, and positional/ active release techniques. I also teach self-myofascial release techniques. MFR promotes a positive body-mind connection and can be highly powerful for chronic pain conditions.
